Do NOT BUY! July 8, 2008 Reviewer:  OVER TARGET See all my reviews >

This ac really stinks. The back attachment will not stay connected - we've even tried to tape it, etc. The tape melts. Even when the back stays on for the first 45 minutes the unit does not get cold. We have a small window unit on our back porch that is only 5,000btu that work TONS better - no comparison. DO NOT BUY!!!

Works like a champ! July 4, 2009 Reviewer:  Twohooz (Charlotte, NC, USA)  See all my reviews >

The air conditioner works very well and has solved a long standing problem with keeping our bonus room cool. The room has central air, but is very poorly insulated, and when it gets very hot outside, the room gets into the upper 80s and low 90s. The rest of the house gets most of the cooling and that room just does not stay cool enough. All the options we have discussed with our HVAC company would have been very expensive, and our neighborhood does not allow window units, so this seemed like an option worth trying.

Installation of the unit was very simple, including the exhaust tube and window adapter. Since the room is above the garage, security is not an issue, but I would certainly not leave it installed on a first floor window when nobody was home. It does not really seal in the window ... another reviewer mentioned that the window bracket is wider on one end than the other, so there is a small gap. We have sealed it with duct tape and it seems to be fine. The unit can keep the bonus room as cool as we want it to be, we have it set at 74 and it has no problem keeping up. A side benefit is that on those truly hot days, it keeps the bonus room cool and the central air can direct more air to the remainder of the house, so the whole house is cooler as a result. In our situation, it was a fairly inexpensive way to add capacity to our overall cooling system without spending a LOT of money on the main system. And since the room is used by our son who is in college, we have the ability to just turn it off when he is not around.

My only complaint is that they seemed to have missed a package when they packed the unit, as there were no instructions and no remote control. I was able to download the instructions from the Haier web site, but I have not yet called customer support to tell them about the missing remote, so we will see how responsive their customer support is.

*** Just a quick update. I called customer support, I sent them a copy of my receipt, and they sent me the remote control. We have had the unit now for a month and a half, and so far so good. It works great and we have had no problems with it whatsoever. The room it is in is about 250 square feet and poorly insulated. If we have left the unit off during the day when unoccupied, the room will generally get into the mid 90 degree range. This unit will cool the room to 75 degrees in less than half an hour.

works perfect May 30, 2009 Reviewer:  StephenR10 See all my reviews >

Fast setup, hose on back does have some limitations but works good, cools our large family room, dining room and entrance. It is better than expected a very nice surpise. I highly recommend it.

Life saver July 28, 2008 Reviewer:  odin "odin" (virginia beach, va, usa)  See all my reviews >

This unit works great. Mine has been running for 2 months now, no water on the floor. i don't have a problem with the hose coming out like the previous post, unless he is putting to much tension on the hose. it stretches out a good long ways. i didn't use the window kit because i don't have a opening window in my office. i hooked mine up to a dry vent, works great! i'm going to put one in my sail boat. I think some one who makes their pen name "OVER TARGET" is probably not so fare in his assesment.

Good Unit August 31, 2009 Reviewer:  D. M. Edinger Real Name (New Jersey, USA)  See all my reviews >

After reading many reviews on portable units, I purchased this unit on sale, last one in the store. It was packed well and set up was easy. I dont have a problem with noise with the unit sitting 5 feet behind me. Yes the exhaust tube does come loose easily if you move the unit. My 3rd floor attic (12x12) office was unusable before I installed the unit. In the summer keep the exhaust tube connected when running in dehumidifier mode, gives 2x the benefit. I havent used the remote. I love that this model evaporates its water, a must have for portable units. I havent seen the effect on my electric bill but anticipate it is no worse than a window unit. 9000 BTU's @ 900 Watts
Pro - Keeps my attic office comfortable, Dehumidifier function works great, easy to vent out, on/off time
Cons - Bulky, heavy, needed a new circuit (old house wiring), had to vent into attic crawl space since I have casement windows.

Okay, not the greatest July 30, 2009 Reviewer:  EdmondsHomebody (Edmonds, WA, USA)  See all my reviews >

Pros: Easy to set up, no water drainage needed
Cons: Weight, inefficent, noise

I purchased this item in a panic. A heat wave was approaching our area and without doing research I purchased this air conditioner with only 3 remaining in the store.

I wanted specifically a portable air conditioner for quick and easy set up. I wanted to be able move it from room to room rather than only have one cool room in the house.

The unit has wheels but it is still a hefty 65lbs not including hose. Set up was easy for the hose but moving room to room was not so easy ie, upstairs bedroom to downstairs family room.

The unit is designed for a closed room. If you have an open floor plan, the unit does not cool down the space as quickly. Our family room opens up to the kitchen. The intent was to cool the family room only. It took the unit 15-20 minutes to cool a 400 sq ft space by 10 degrees. It reached 101 outside and although the setting was 78, the room temperature stayed at 83. I found out afterwards the manfacturer recommends that you upgrade to a unit with 12000 BTU's and higher if you have an open floor plan.

But again, I was desperate. I would recommend that if you are interested in this particular model consider room size. It is also very noisy at the highest fan speed. Otherwise, under a moment of desperation, we do not regret purchasing it.

Cross sell with ear plugs July 25, 2009 Reviewer:  Mr Shopsalot See all my reviews >

This unit makes me feel a bit nostalgic of my travels around Europe by rail. At a certain point the roar in the background becomes a lullaby. The only thing missing is 5 strangers in my room! Despite the noise, my 900 square foot apartment feels like a meat locker. It definitely works!

Window Panel Design Needs Redesigning June 10, 2008 Reviewer:  mystic See all my reviews >

Just bought this today after the 7000 BTU sold out, so I hadn't done any research on this one. Thoughts so far:

1. Easy to set up, only took 10 minutes
2. The window panel, in 2 sections so that one can adjust to window width, is not wide enough for my window. Also, the window touches one side of the panel and not the other. I will have to have a carpenter build something. No way would I leave the house without dismantling this i.e, taking it out of the window.

3. It does have wheels ...product description does not mention that bonus.

I bought portable so as not to have to lift heavy AC into window so I am stuck. Hopefully a carpenter will come up with a good solution.

Don't know about cooling power yet...
